Robert V. Benson

Robert Vincent Benson, 75, passed away at his home on October 7, 2018. A native of Brooklyn, New York, son of the late William and Marie Costanzo Benson, he was a retiree of State Auto Insurance Company and of the Catholic faith. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Ruth Parker Benson; a daughter, Christine Benson Morelli (Paul) of Greer; a son, Robert Benson (Nili) of Lakeland, Tennessee; two brothers, William Benson of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Peter Benson of Helendale, California; and four grandchildren, Lauren Morelli and Ryan Morelli both of Greer, Taylor Benson and Parker Benson both of Denver, Colorado; and his godson Tony Benson of Olathe, Kansas. Bob worked in insurance for 43 years, the last 27 years with State Auto. In 1988 he moved to the SE Regional Office in Greer, SC where he was a Senior Claims Examiner. He completed the requirement to receive the designation from The American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters, CPCU in 1992. Bob served on the City of Greer Planning and Zoning Board for 10 years and served as President of The Brushy Meadows HOA for 8 years. Bob’s greatest love was his family. He believed that the best gift you can give your children is time and that he did. He and Ruth enjoyed traveling, especially cruising, skiing, dancing and spending time with their family and all their very dear friends. During this 8 year journey with dementia, he was strong and cooperative and now he is at peace. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the outstanding caregivers from Home Helpers of Greer and Halcyon Hospice for their loving care of Bob during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at The Wood Mortuary conducted by Dr. David Boyter. Visitation will be held 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at The Wood Mortuary. The family will be receiving guests at their home following the service.
