Jewell C. DeYoung Sr.

Jewell Christopher DeYoung, Sr., 92, husband of the late Renee Williams DeYoung, passed away June 10, 2025. A native of Greer, South Carolina, son of the late George Washington and Ruth Annie Christopher DeYoung, he was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Apalache Baptist Church. Jewell was the owner and operator of DeYoung’s Garage for over 40 years, and an active member of the Corsa-SC Upstate Corvair Club. Surviving are three sons, Chris DeYoung (Joyce) of Greer, Rev. Brett DeYoung of Columbia, and Scott DeYoung of Greer; eight grandchildren, Ashley Tuck (Neil), Todd DeYoung, Jeremy DeYoung (Aleisha), Nathan DeYoung (Katie), Corbin DeYoung (Gia), Aimee Smith (Ricco Sanders), Dale Smith, and Eli Smith (Breahna); and ten great-grandchildren, Michael DeYoung, Andre Gaston, Sage Gaston, Jackson Tuck, Beason Tuck, Brentley Smith, Parker Williamson, Waylon Smith, Keegan DeYoung, and Lennon DeYoung. He was predeceased by his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly DeYoung Sparks and Phillip Sparks; and three brothers, Marion “Curley” DeYoung, Ray DeYoung, and Doc DeYoung; three sisters, Thelma Owens, Margaret Bright, and Lou Joner; and a special friend, Peggy Center. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Apalache Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Childers and Dr. Keith Kelly. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens with military honors. Visitation will be held 1:00-2:45 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, prior to the service at the church. Mr. DeYoung’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary escorts will be, his great-grandsons, Gold Seekers Sunday School Class of Apalache Baptist Church, Corsa-SC Upstate Corvair Club, and Korean War Veterans Association, Foothills Chapter #301. The family will be at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Joyce DeYoung.
