Helen Holladay

Heading: Helen W. Holladay Dateline: North Augusta Helen Wilkerson Holladay, widow of the late Colonel Lewis Littlepage Holladay and daughter of the late William James and Lanie Fields Wilkerson. Born and grew up in Robeson County, N.C. She graduated from Coker College with a degree in music and taught music and elementary grades in York and Florence counties. Mrs. Holladay was a member of Greer First Presbyterian Church for almost 50 years where she served actively until moving to North Augusta in 2003. She then joined Fairview Presbyterian Church in North Augusta. In the Greer church, she was the first woman to be elected to office and she served as a deacon, elder, Clerk of Sessions, Trustee, Sunday school teacher, Women of the Church, and various committees. She also served for three years as Administrator of Christian Education. In November, 2003 she was presented a Resolution honoring her as Trustee Emeritus of Greer First Presbyterian Church, Greer, S.C. While in Greer, she served on the board of Greer Community Ministries and the Greer Garden Club Council. She was an active member of the Azalea Garden Club for 47 years, where she was granted an Honorary Membership when she moved to North Augusta. Mrs. Holladay was Associate Member of Greenville Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. Mrs. Holladay loved people and especially children and young people. In later years, she became known as “Grandma Holladay”. Surviving are her two daughters, Cynthia D. Holladay of San Mateo, CA. and Page Holladay Kight of North Augusta, S.C.; a granddaughter, Cory D. Harrison of Augusta, GA; sons-in-law, Rodney Kight of North Augusta, S.C. and Christopher Loosley of San Mateo, CA; nieces and nephews; Jean Wilkerson Lamb of Lumberton, N.C., Anne Wilkerson of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Margie Wilkerson Moore of Naples, FL, and Bobby Wilkerson of Lumberton, N.C, ; step-grandsons and granddaughters, Rod Kight of Asheville, N.C., Ryan Kight of North Augusta, S.C., Bryn Loosley of Santa Cruz, CA, and Heather Loosley of San Francisco, CA. Mrs. Holladay was predeceased by a brother, Wakefield Wilkerson and two nephews, Jimmy Wilkerson and Isham Wilkerson. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Greer First Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Wayne Cole, Rev. Ray White and Dr. G. Dan McCall. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Greer First Presbyterian Church .
