Grace Smith

Grace Ann Smith, 92, passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2013. Born May 26, 1921 in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Whitner Smith and Hettie Ann Wilson Smith. She is survived by her sister, E. Murice Smith of the home; a sister-in-law, Eloise H. Smith; her niece, Marjorie and Jack Anderson of Columbus, Ohio; her nephew, Wilson Keith Smith of Gaffney; great nephews and nieces, Warren and Melissa Smith, Tamara and Rob Main, Kevin Smith and Megan Sykes and Jonathan and Amanda Anderson; and great-grand nieces and nephew, Keely, Riley, and Aubrey Smith and Parker and Makayla Anderson. Miss Smith was predeceased by her brothers, Whitner Wilson Smith, Lewis Keith Smith and her sister, Katherine Hettie Smith. Grace worked in various textile plants her adult life, as a floor manager and supervisor. She taught and was a supervisor in the Children’s Department of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for 38 years. After her “retirement” from the Children’s Department, she led the Children’s Corner for many additional years. She was an active member of the Happy Hearts Senior club at Pleasant Grove and enjoyed many bus trips all over the United State and Canada. She volunteered as a poll worker at the voting polls for many years after retirement. She loved to cook and enjoyed hosting family dinners, making every occasion a special celebration. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 24 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1002 South Buncombe Road, in Greer from 1:00-2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Dr. Drew Hines and Rev. Donnel Kelly officiating. There will be no graveside service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Happy Hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Happy Hearts at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1002 South Buncombe Road, Greer, S.C. 29651 or Journey Hospice, 665 North Academy Street, Greenville, S.C. 29601.
