Don M. Blews Sr.

Don Marshall Blews, 72, passed away peacefully on February 5 surrounded by family and loved ones. Don was born in Paterson, NJ in 1945 but lived most of childhood and young adult years in Montville, NJ. As an adult he lived most of his life in Palm Beach County, Florida and Taylors, SC. He had a true love of learning, earning 2 Masters Degrees and tutoring in the local schools. An avid outdoorsman, he loved camping, the beach and all that nature had to offer. As the effects of PLS and ALS began taking their toll he enjoyed watching webcams of several different zoos around the world. He was especially fond of sea life - sea turtles, dolphins and manatees. He was also a huge fan of sci-fi movies. Don can only be described as a true survivor, having survived more than 50 years with type 1 diabetes, almost 30 years with muscular dystrophy, specifically PLS and ALS, and completely recovering from a massive stroke. He was the best dad 2 kids could ever have asked for. Don Blews was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Rutherford Blews and Dorothy Williams Blews of Mt. Airy, SC and a faithful service dog, Joey Blews. He is survived by a son, Don Marshall Blews Jr of Clermont, FL, a daughter, Cheri-Lyn Weidman of Taylors, SC, three grandchildren, Casey Weidman of Taylors, SC, Tani Weidman of Bailey, CO, and Sarah Ann (Sari) Blews of Clermont, FL, three great granddaughters, Sophia Caroline Weidman of Taylors, SC, Willow Grace Truel of Bailey, CO, and Rosalyn Marie Weidman of Taylors, SC, and his “always-by-my-side” companion dog, Hyatt Blews. He is also survived by three brothers, Richard Blews of Orlando, FL, Kevin Blews of Swansboro NC, and Peter Blews of Palmetto, FL and a sister, Danajean Mabry of Mt. Airy, NC. Also, he is survived by 2 former wives and lifelong friends, Diana Lewis of Clermont, FL and Linda Stuck Reidmiller of Bushkill, PA. Special thanks to son-in-law Kean Weidman of Taylors, SC and daughter-in-law Debbie Blews of Clermont, FL for their amazing care throughout the years, to Regency Hospice for their tender loving care in his final days, and to Pat and John Fleming for the extra special love shown our family. Many thanks as well to all the many friends and family who have offered up prayers for his peaceful passing. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at The Wood Mortuary in Greer, SC. The family is at the home of his daughter.
