Ann S. Veazey

Veazey Dateline: Greer In the midst of our sadness, we praise God and give Him thanks for the life of a woman we were privileged to call beloved wife, cherished mother, devoted “Nana” and dear friend. On Sunday, December 10, 2006, following a courageous battle with cancer, Ann Shockley Veazey beheld the face of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born May 6, 1937, Ann was the daughter of the late Hubert S. Shockley and the late Callie Berry Shockley of Taylors. She attended Taylors High School and Mars Hill College, in Mars Hill, N.C. For 45 years, Ann shared her life and a loving marriage with her husband, Walter “Walt” Hutchinson Veazey. During their union, they were blessed with a daughter, Dalinda Lorraine Veazey. Ann and Walt were long-time members of Taylors First Baptist Church. Ann loved the beach and among her happiest times were those spent with her family at Myrtle Beach. She was a devoted Clemson Tigers and Atlanta Braves fan, and an avid bridge player. Ann is survived by her husband, Walt, originally of Greenville; her daughter Dalinda V. Powell, her son-in-law Jody Powell, her two precious grandchildren Thomas Jacob “Jake” Powell age 7, and Andrew Edward “Drew” Powell age 3 all of Mauldin; her maternal aunt, Frances Berry Harley of Greer; her Goddaughter, Ann Hutchinson of Greenville; and cousins, Steve Berry of Woodruff; Bobby Harley of Greer; Jimmy Harley of Moore; Phil Harley of Lyman: Myrtle Raines Hutchinson of Greenville; Frances Grant Kay of Athens, Ga; Ginger Lister of Greer; Toni Lynn Mace of Greer; Mary Grant Phillips of Texas; Carolyn Sellars of Lyman; Richard Shockley, Sr., of Taylors; and Jody Williams of Greer. She was predeceased by her day-old baby brother, William David Shockley and her cousin, Lonnie Harley of Greer. At the time of her death, Ann was at her home in Greer, surrounded by her immediate family and with Walt, who throughout her illness never left her side. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at The Wood Mortuary, 300 W. Poinsett Street, in Greer. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Taylors, 200 W. Main Street, in Taylors. Dr. Jimmie Harley will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville. The family is at the residence.
