Robert Lee Newhart, Sr.

July 7, 1931 - January 15, 2022

Robert “Bob” Lee Newhart, Sr., 90, entered his heavenly home on January 15, 2022. A native of Ewington, Ohio, son of the late Clyde and Nora Irene Bondham Newhart, he served in the United States Air force for 21 years during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars before retiring in 1972. During his military career Bob served in numerous locations in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia. He was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church; a member of the Chapin Lions Club for 12 years and was honored as Lion of the Year in 2010. Bob was a member of the American Legion for 30 years and recognized for his community service in 2007. Surviving are his loving wife, Mary Sue Lynn Newhart of Taylors; one son, Robert L. Newhart, Jr. (Shirley) of Bluffton, SC; one daughter, Angela Outen (Keith) of Fort Mill, SC; four grandchildren, Jeremy Newhart, Miranda Newhart, Ashley Outen and Nick Outen; and one great-granddaughter, Linsey Newhart. Mr. Newhart was predeceased also by his first wife, Lina Mae Hancock Newhart. A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2021, at Double Springs Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Thomas Riddle and Rev. Kevin Elders. Online condolences may be made at www.thewoodmortuary.com.
