James Boyd Custer, 75, passed away May 5, 2022. He was a son of the late Harold David Custer and Adell Custer Moore, a member of White Oaks Baptist Church and retired truck driver. James is survived by his former wife, Ruth Richardson Custer, daughter, Angie Lewis (Hobart), son, Tim Custer (Julie), four grandchildren, John Lewis (Micah), Maddie Lewis, Bryson Custer, Caleb Custer; one great-granddaughter, Charleigh Rae Lewis, two brothers, Gene and Rudy Custer; sister-in-law, Sandy Wilson, and two brothers-in-law, Doug Wilson; Orrin Richardson. James loved coaching and umpiring baseball and always coached as if he was still on the field playing the game “inside the lines”. He had a special skill for sharing his love of the game with children and always enjoyed seeing them succeed on the field and later in life. He was predeceased by a sister, Linda Masker and brother-in-law, George Richard Richardson. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2022, at Cannon Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Tommy S. Kay, Mr. Hobart Lewis and Deacon Joe Terry. A visitation will be held after the service at the gravesite. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Oaks Baptist Church, 30 Fairforest Way, Greenville, SC 29607.
