David "Shep" Smith

October 29, 1959 - June 16, 2022

David Sheppard “Shep” Smith, 62, passed away on June 16, 2022. Born on October 29, 1959, in Charleston, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Randolph and Nancy Rhodes Smith. Shep was a believer of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A born again Christian. A very loving husband, of 37 years to his surviving wife, Debra Davis Smith. An incredible father to his two surviving sons, Zachary Smith (Destiny) of Greer and Logan Smith of Greenville, and his two daughters, Zoe Smith of Greenville and Candace Anderson (Mark) of Wilkesboro, North Carolina; a loving brother to two brothers, Arthur Smith (Carolyn) and Scott Smith (Amy) both of Greenville; as well as two sisters, Kristy Schaffert (David) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Kathryne Smith of Canton, Georgia; an incredible loving grandfather to his grandchildren; Karsyn Smith, Bennett Smith, Elijah Smith, Stevie Medley, Lauren Anderson, and Lilly Anderson; and great grandchildren, Easton Church, Jayden Church, and Hunter Medley. Along with his parents, Shep was preceded in death by two sons, Joshua and David Smith; and one brother, Robin Smith. David “Shep” Smith was a Certified Executive Chef for 40 years. When he wasn’t at work, you could always find him in the kitchen or by the grill cooking something up. His food was made with such love and brought so much joy into peoples’ lives. He will forever be remembered for his famous barbeque. Shep had a love for the outdoors; fishing and camping were two of his favorite things to do when he had time to get away. He was a proud member of the 3rd Table From The Left Dining Club, where he enjoyed yearly canoe and fishing trips. He always had a story to tell, never met a stranger, and would light up any room. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at The Wood Mortuary. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, in The Wood Mortuary Chapel, conducted by Pastor Ross White. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Smith residence following the service.
