Charles V. Burleson

July 30, 1953 - March 19, 2022

Charles “Chuck” Vantus Burleson, Jr.,68, passed away March 19, 2022. He was known as June Bug to close friends and family growing up. A native of Asheville, NC, son of the late Bobby V. Burleson and Thelma Lunsford Freeman, he played football for Bishopville High School, 1 year Junior Varsity and 1 year Varsity, a United States Army Veteran, did overseas tours in the Panama Canal, Germany (2 tours), Korea, and of the Baptist faith. Mr. Burleson received, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation 4 wars, Natural Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Army Good Conduct Award-six awards, Army Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. Surviving are his wife, Aida C. Arauz of Puyallup, WA; one son, William “Billy” Jeffrey Burleson of Puyallup, WA; one daughter, Sissi Gabrielle Gardner (Donny) of Santa Fe, TX; four brothers, Randy Burleson of Simpsonville; Marcus Freeman (Angie) of Greenville; Mike Burleson of Orangeburg; Timothy Burleson (Kaye) of Orangeburg; one sister, Carolyn Mills (Scott) of Fresno, CA; four grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, Gennah Gardner and Jordan Burleson; and special uncle, Alvin Lunsford of Bowman. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Bowman First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Michael Rumbough. Burial will follow in Bowman Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Timothy Burleson, Matthew Burleson, Jonathan Smith, Arthur Mills, Blake Cramer, and Mike Burleson. The family will be at their respective homes. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Southern Oaks Assisted Living and Crescent Hospice staff.
