Calvin Mitchell Simpson

July 22, 1944 - April 22, 2022

Calvin Mitchell (Mickey) Simpson passed peacefully with his daughter, Kimberly by his side. Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Irene Simpson; his loving wife, Imogene Simpson; his son, Anthony Scott Simpson; his brother, Archie Simpson; and his sister, Renĕe Faulkenberry. Surviving relatives are his daughter, Kimberly Simpson Gault (Jamie); four grandchildren, Miranda Boone, Kayla Pearson, Allie Patterson, and Kristen Parker; eleven great-grandchildren; niece and nephew, Donna and Roger Pool; sisters, Patsy White (Ron) of Iowa, Susan Bates (David) of Gray Court, Wanda Thompson (Bobby) of Greenville, and Elizabeth “Betty” Simpson of Atlanta; and the mother of his children, Carolyn Simpson. Mickey was a family man first and foremost and loved taking care of his family. He was always there to lend a hand no matter if construction, automotive, plumbing, or electrical. Mickey could fix it all and we all called on him regularly. When Mickey was young, he enjoyed racing at the local dirt tracks and even did his own body work. Mickey followed in his dad’s footsteps choosing construction for his career. He never really took retirement because he enjoyed working and being helpful to others. Mickey loved westerns and rode through life like a true cowboy. His favorite actor was John Wayne (although in his prime Mickey could pass for Clint Eastwood). Mickey was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Greer, SC. He served his church well and handled many projects at the church alongside his wife, Imogene. His favorite hymn was “Wings of a Dove” and now Mickey is with the angels. He will be missed by many, but we know he is in a better place. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Faith Temple, conducted by Rev. Raymond Burrows. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service. The family is at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Online condolences may be made at www.thewoodmortuary.com.
