Alvin D. Brookshire of Taylors, SC, went to be with his savior the Lord Jesus Christ, September 27, 2021, at a nursing home after a courageous battle with COVID-19 at the age of 96. A native of Taylors, he was the son of the late Fred and Clara Brookshire of Parris Mountain, graduated from Taylors High School and took marketing courses at Troy University. As a child, he was a member of First Baptist Church Taylors and Mt. Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Brookshire served in the United States Navy in WWII as acting Chief Petty Officer on several ships, having served on the USS Sibley PA 206, one of the ships that carried United States Marines to Iwo Jima. After leaving the Navy, he attended Taylors First Baptist Church and was presently a member of Lee Road Baptist Church for the last 58 years. His first job was working in the meat market at Kash & Karry Grocery Store and chopping wood all day long. He also went to Bulova watch making school and worked on watches. He worked at Southern Worsted for a while and then went to Greenville News as city supervisor for 32 years. One of his sayings were he’s just like a Timex watch, “I take the licking and keep on ticking” and I acknowledge the name of Jesus Christ and “some golden day Jesus will come.” Surviving are his wife of 78 years, Bonnie Brookshire of Taylors; one daughter, Judy Brookshire Lynch (Henry) of Sunset Beach; one son, Bobby Brookshire (Gayle) of Taylors; one granddaughter April Roberts; two great-grandchildren Jackson and Sydney Roberts; and one brother Freddy Brookshire (Frances). Mr. Brookshire was predeceased by one brother, Marvin Brookshire. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2021, at Lee Road Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jason Kittrell. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 9:30-10:45 a.m. Monday at the church. The family respectively request that masks be worn. Alvin wanted to be sure to thank St. Francis Hospital doctor who worked on him many times the last 8 years and to Lee Road Baptist Church for praying and visiting many times.
