Shelby Jean Hayes

Shelby Jean Brown Hayes, a life-long resident of Greer, passed away at Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation on December 13, 2016 surrounded by family and friends. Shelby was born August 11, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Frances Sandlin Brown and Paul Dennis Brown. Surviving are her daughter, Donna Lowery (Scott), of Taylors; step-son, Keith Hayes (Kathy) of Pickens; step-daughter, Donna Tolliver (Tracey) of Liberty; grandson, Justin Hayes; one sister, Maxine Brown Tollison of Greer; one brother, Steve Brown of Greer, and nieces and nephews. Shelby was predeceased by one granddaughter, Heather Lynn Miller (whom she loved dearly). She retired from Keys Printing. She was of the Baptist faith and faithfully attended the church services at the Hendersonville Nursing Facility. Before her health declined, she attended Lee Road Baptist Church in Taylors. Although she endured many health problems through the years, she never lost her good attitude and her faith remained steadfast. She always had a smile on her face despite her adversities. Shelby lit up a room with her outgoing personality and cheerfulness. Even in her declining health, she showed more concern for others than herself. She was a fighter all the way to the end. She strived to look her best at all times and was a true southern lady. Shelby loved sports (especially the Carolina Gamecocks). When in her prime, she was a great athlete. She could catch a long fly ball when playing softball with the greatest of ease and was also a great basketball player. Shelby was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend and will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the Hendersonville Health and Rehab staff and the hospice staff for their wonderful care and compassion. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 15th from 6:00-8:00 pm at The Wood Mortuary in Greer. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 16th at 2:00 pm at The Wood Mortuary in Greer conducted by Reverend Bill Way. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
