Ralph Allen Henson

Ralph Allen Henson, 73, passed away January 16, 2023. A native of Spartanburg County, a son of the late C.B. and Euline Satterfield Henson, he was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, a retired Civil Engineer with Collins & Hammett Construction, member of Liberty Hill Methodist Church and member of Bailey Masonic Lodge #146. Ralph was an avid fisherman, fishing every Wednesday with a special group of men. He served District 5 Baseball and Softball from 1981 through 1997, was the National Director for Dixie Girls Softball for 19 years and was inducted into Dixie Hall of Fame in 2012. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Smith Henson of the home; one son, Brian Allen Henson (Jan) of Greer; one daughter, Amy Harvey (Jeff) of Greer; two sisters, Ruth Ellen Gordon and Rachel Smith of Greer; three grandchildren, Hannah Henson of Greer, Jacob Harvey of Greer and Tyler Harvey of Brooklyn, New York; a special niece, Emily Lancaster; seven nephews, Eric Smith, Marshall Smith, Jason Smith, Will Lancaster, Hunter Lancaster, Corey Lancaster and David Lancaster and one brother-in-law, Jerry Smith. He was also predeceased by one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Janie Lancaster, one brother-in-law, Bob Gordon, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mitchell and Earline Smith A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2023, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Fred Quidley and Rev. Tim Huckaby, with webcasting available at www.thewoodmortuary.com. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens with Military Rites. A visitation will be held 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2023, at The Wood Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Liberty Hill Methodist Church, 301 Liberty Hill Road, Greer, SC 29651. Pallbearers will be Corey Lancaster, David Lancaster, Hunter Lancaster, Tyson Waddell, Tyler Harvey, and Jacob Harvey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Cooper, Larry Green, Ted Fowler, Randy Kemp, Marvin Satterfield, and Leonard Satterfield.
