Mary Thomas Roberts Truesdale

Mary Thomas Roberts Truesdale April 21, 1919 - August 7, 2009 Mary Thomas Roberts Truesdale was born in Hillsboro in Orange County, NC, to the late Ida Thomas Jordan Roberts and David Thomas Roberts. Her maternal grandparents were John Wesley Jordan and Elizabeth Wilkerson Jordan. Her paternal grandparents were William Rainey Roberts and Mary Roundtree Roberts all of Orange County, NC. Mary Thomas Roberts Truesdale was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Grover Truesdale; a brother, William Wesley Roberts and his wife Dora Young Roberts; and a sister, Charlie Francis Roberts Terrell and her husband, Edgar Terrell. She is survived by her daughter, Estelle T. McKenzie and her husband, Michael McKenzie, of Greenwood, SC; her son Vernon Grover Truesdale and his fiancée, Jennifer B. Brown of Lake Wylie and her daughter Megan; a granddaughter, Dru McKenzie Robinson, and husband, Andrew Robinson, and a most precious great granddaughter, Lauren McKenzie Robinson of Bradley, SC; a grandson, Michael Bret McKenzie and his wife, Jennifer B. McKenzie of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and a brother David Bryant Roberts and wife, Louise Ray Roberts of Chapel Hill, NC; as well as, nieces and nephews. Mary Thomas graduated from Hillsboro High School where she lettered four years in basketball. She was an avid fan of the ACC Basketball Games until death and maintained her theme of “Tar Hill born and Tar Hill bred.” She attended Croft Secretarial and Accounting School. Her most cherished years as a secretary were spent working for her husband the last four years of his life. Mary Thomas was a member of Greer First Baptist Church for 47 years. She was one of the first members to initiate the Cookie Ministry and she took great pride in chairing the Brides Committee. She was a member of the Friendly Ringers, Friendly Choir and Friendly Neighbors since their inception. She always spoke of how gratifying it was to serve on the Greer First Baptist Bereavement Committee. The family would like to express appreciation to Greenwood Internal Medicine, Piedmont Neurology, Lakelands Orthopedic, Bayberry Retirement Inn and National Health Care of Greenwood. The graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Greer, SC on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends after the ceremony.
