Margie Rada Harrison, 89, wife of the late M.E. Harrison, Sr., passed away November 17, 2014 in her home at Oakleaf Village in Greer, S.C. Born in Anderson, S.C., Mrs. Harrison was the daughter of the late Magnolia Young Rada and John Burton Rada and one of 6 children, including her twin, Marvin Rada of Anderson. She was preceded in death by siblings John Rada, Mignon Wells, Eunice Burriss and Mary Cashion Jones. Mrs. Harrison moved to Greenville, S.C. as a child and attended Greenville High School. She married her husband on May 8, 1941 and was proud to be both mother and wife. Throughout her life, Mrs. Harrison enjoyed participating in social events, especially as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Eastern Star and as part of her tenure at the Secretary-Treasurer of the Hejaz Scooterettes. She was a founding member of Edwards Road Baptist Church, and was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church (Taylors, S.C.) and attended Bible Study and services at Oakleaf Village and was faithful to her daily devotionals. Mrs. Harrison looked forward to tailgating at Clemson games, especially when she traveled out of town to cheer on the Tigers in the bowl games. She had a cheerful personality and a quick smile especially when she was spoiling her grandchildren. Mrs. Harrison loved being outside gardening, relaxing at the lake with her boys when they were little, or spending time with family at reunions. She was a devoted animal lover, giving her pets special treats and providing for all the backyard birds throughout the winter (at the delight of the squirrels). Mrs. Harrison’s laughter and cheer was exemplified by her love of bright colors, especially pink and purple, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Harrison is survived by her sons, M.E. (Sonny) Harrison, Jr., and his wife, Judy, and John (Johnny) Benson Harrison, and his wife Cheryl; six grandchildren including, Randy Christopher Harrison and his wife Sylvia, Robert Keith Harrison, John Christopher Harrison and his wife Joy, Jennifer Harrison Bull and her partner Susan Yelverton, Melissa Ruth Harrison and Jessica Harrison Brown and her husband Jeremy and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Marion Craig Harrison. The family will receive guests at Wood Mortuary from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Thursday, November 20. The service with Dr. Ralph Carter officiating will begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park after the service. The family will be at 105 North Miller Street, Greer, S.C. after the burial then at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of the giver’s choice.
