Marcie A. Cunningham

Marcie Ann Cunningham went home to be with her Savior on January 28, 2024, in Spartanburg, SC. Marcie was born in Winter Haven, Florida, to John and Marjorie Cuthill. As a young girl, Marcie came to faith in Christ during a revival meeting after hearing a message on the second coming. Marcie developed a love for music at an early age. With the support and encouragement of her older brother, John, she became proficient at the piano and trumpet. Marcie attended Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN, where she studied piano and voice. It was there that she met her husband, David. Marcie began accompanying David’s singing during their freshman year, and their collaboration happily continued for over 50 years. David and Marcie were married after graduation in 1975 and continued living in Chattanooga, where they ministered together at Highland Park Baptist Church and Tennessee Temple Christian School. While in Chattanooga, Marcie’s daughters, Melissa and Lauren were born. In 1982, David and Marcie moved to Columbus, Georgia, where Marcie served as the pianist at Grace Baptist Church and Christian School. It was there that Marcie’s son, Jonathan was born. In 1988, the family moved to Houston, Texas, where Marcie ministered at Helmers Street Baptist Church and Christian School as secretary, pianist, and pastor’s wife. Over her 20 years in Houston, Marcie impacted the lives of hundreds of children and their families in the church and school. In 2008, Marcie’s family relocated to Greenville, SC. Here Marcie worked in several local ministries and became a member of Cleveland Park Bible Church, where she rejoiced to take part in the music ministry. Of all the ways she served the Lord, Marcie considered her ministry to her family to be her highest calling and greatest joy, being a devoted wife, nurturing mother, and loving grandmother. On her last day on earth, Marcie was preparing to minister to the church she cherished and for the glory of the Lord she loved, when she was called home to heaven. The last song she was heard to play was, “I Will Follow.” The chorus reads: “I rest in Thee, trust in Thee; I place my life in Thy hands. I will follow Thee, My Savior; Lead on, My Shepherd, lead on.” Marcie is preceded in death by her parents, John and Marjorie Cuthill and son-in-law, Jonathan Harris. She is survived by her husband, David; brother, John Cuthill; daughter, Melissa Phillips, and her husband Jeremiah; daughter, Lauren; son Jonathan and his fiancée, Samantha; three granddaughters, Katie, Emma, and Olivia, as well as brothers- and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” I Thessalonians 4:16-18. A visitation and viewing will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 12:30pm with a service to follow at 2:00pm. Both the viewing and the service will be held at Cleveland Park Bible Church, 711 Asheville Highway, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
