Luna Hilliard

Heading: Luna E. Hilliard Dateline: Greer Luna Edwards Hilliard, 87, of 111 Blue Ridge Drive in Greer, died on Sunday, October 31, 2010, with her family by her side. A lifelong resident of Greer, she was the daughter of the late Ben P. Edwards and Della Howe Edwards. She was a graduate of Greer High School and Furman University, class of 1944. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Roy L. Hilliard. A long-time member of Greer First Baptist Church, she taught the Primary Children’s class for many years. Early in her career, Mrs. Hilliard worked as an accountant and later as a substitute teacher. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and volunteer at Roger Huntington Nursing Center, she dedicated her life to helping others. She was an avid bridge player and adored her bridge club. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. June H. Ross and husband Doug Ross of Greenville; son, Mr. Frank E. Hilliard and wife Beth L. Hilliard of Greer; grandchildren, Ashley Wright and husband Tyson Wright of Greer, Katie Aughtry and husband Scott Aughtry of Greer, Doug Ross Jr. of Greenville, Rosemary Hilliard of Boston, MA, and Sam Hilliard of Columbia; and sisters, Mrs. Betty McKinney of the home and Mrs. Thalia Mason of Charlotte. Funeral services will be held at The Wood Mortuary in Greer on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Dan Ray and Mrs. Dottie Bryson. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be held 12:30-1:45 p.m. Wednesday at The Wood Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Tyson Wright, Smokie Price, Doug Ross, Jr., Bob Burnett, Scott Aughtry, Doug Ross, Sr. and Sam Hilliard. Honorary escort will be the Senior Adult Class. The family will be at the home, 111 Blue Ridge Drive, Greer. A special thanks to Carol Smith and all the caregivers at The Azalea Cottage for their love and kindness in caring for our mother during her final days.
