John Robert Carlisle

John Robert Carlisle, 93, passed away August 24, 2024. He was the son of the late Harold Lander Carlisle, Sr. and Mattie Lee Parnell Carlisle of Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, and the loving husband of the late Geraldine (Jerry) Frady Carlisle for 64 years. John graduated from Clemson College (1953; B.S. Textiles) and enlisted in the U.S. Army with the 97th Signal Operations Battalion (9-14-1953). Upon leaving service, he graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology (1958; M.S. Textiles). He worked for Lyman Printing and Finishing, Monsanto, Greenwood Mills, and Rockland Industries. He was a faithful member of Lyman Methodist Church as well as an avid horticulturist and genealogist. He was also active with the Masons and Shriners as a Master Mason (Orangeburg Lodge 12), a Companion/Sir Knight (Orangeburg York Rite – Eureka Chapter No. 13 R.A.M., Petros Council No. 11 R.&S.M., Orangeburg Commandery No. 9 K.T.), and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in the Charleston Omar Temple. Surviving are his two daughters and son-in-law, Teresa Elizabeth Carlisle Shuler (Mark) of Hendersonville, NC and Deborah Ann Carlisle Mann of Lyman, SC; four grandchildren, Derec Carlisle Shuler (Camille) of Golden, CO, Avril Renee Shuler Ellis (Jason) of Sykesville, MD, Jason Carlisle Mann of Kiev, Ukraine, and John Stephen Mann (Teddi) of Denver, CO; eight great-grandchildren, Alexander Howard Ellis, Nicholas Lewis Carlisle Ellis, Cheyenne Abigail Ellis, Ryan Curtis Ellis, Wesley Carlisle Shuler, Anna Caroline Shuler, Saylor Anndee Mann, and Maylee Maeve Mann; special nieces Rebekah Diane Conant (Scott) and Linda Lee Purdy (Boyd); nephews James Henry Carlisle and Otis Edmonds Carlisle; and cousins Ella Florence Cheek and Jimmy Finch. Visitation will be held from 1:00-1:45 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Lyman Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m, conducted by Pastors Andrew Sizemore and Ron Towery. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Derec Shuler, Jason Mann, Stephen Mann, Alex Ellis, Nick Ellis, Ryan Ellis, and Wesley Shuler.
