Geraldine Cox

Geraldine Hindman Cox, 79, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on May 2, 2024. She was born in Greer, South Carolina, on September 14, 1944. The daughter of the late Abe and Grace Christopher Hindman, she was a retired data processor for Dove Broadcasting and an active member of Praise Cathedral. Surviving are her husband Sam Cox of the home; one son, Eric Cox (Tracy) of Taylors, South Carolina; one daughter, Dana Connelly (Chad) of Prosperity, South Carolina; one sister, Sarah Dixon of Sumter, South Carolina; and six grandchildren, Hannah McAlister (Taylor), Heather Cox, CJ Connelly, Leigha Harbert, Bennett Connelly (Alivia Grace), and Summer Harbert. Mrs. Cox was predeceased by one brother, Carroll Hindman. Geraldine met the love of her life, Sam, at a skating rink when she was a teenager. Their beautiful marriage of over 59 years is a true testament of love and commitment. She dearly loved her children, Eric and Dana, and has been an ever-present source of encouragement and support throughout their lives. One of her greatest joys was becoming Nana. Her six grandchildren have brought such delight to her heart from precious babies, through the teen years, and now all in their 20s. She was continually asking about their lives and how she could pray for them. She was a woman of disciplined and persistent prayer, and there are many all over the world who are covered in her prayers without them even knowing. God’s Word, evidenced by her well-worn Bible, was her source of strength, hope and joy. Her heart was for people to know the Jesus she knew, and who she now knows more closely than we can imagine. In addition to teaching First Grade Sunday School for many years, she was one of the sweet prayer ladies you reached when you called the prayer line at WGGS Channel 16. After her retirement, she spent six years faithfully serving as a chaplain in the local hospital and nursing homes. One of her love languages was cooking, whether for holidays with family, big breakfasts during granddaughter sleepovers, or canning Sam’s vegetable garden bounty. Her grandchildren agree that no fried okra is quite like their Nana’s. Geraldine loved seeing the world, visiting 23 countries, many of which were during mission trips to share the Good News of Jesus. She never lost her desire to “go” (Matthew 28:19), whether it was to children in Africa, an employee in a store, or her therapists in rehab. She loved snow, sitting on the beach, gingersnaps with milk, picnics, collecting dolls from various countries, collecting angel Christmas ornaments, and most of all, time with her family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched. Her sweet spirit, tender heart, and loving smile will forever be cherished by those who knew her. A Celebration of Life service will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Praise Cathedral Church of God in Greer, South Carolina, conducted by Rev. Jerry Madden and Rev. Chris Criswell. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held 2:00-3:15 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Praise Cathedral. The service will available for webcasting at www.praisecathedral.org.
