Freddie "Mickey" Goode

Freddie Leon “Mickey” Goode, 77, passed away the morning of July 11, 2017. He was born in Cliffside, North Carolina, February 24, 1940 and grew up in Chesnee, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Jerry Paul Goode and Elsie Curtis Goode. His childhood was spent in Chesnee, South Carolina, where at age 14 he was awarded the Eagle Scout Award as a member of Troop #186. The troop’s scoutmaster, Mr. Frank Allen, played an integral role in the development of Freddie as a human being. He graduated from Chesnee High School in 1958 and married Cheryl Jackson in 1965. He was a member of the National Association of Eagle Scouts and the National Association of Letter Carriers Local 628. He was also a member of the Roper Mountain Astronomer’s Club. He was a very active member of his community and did a lot of volunteer work. He was Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #24 in Lyman from 1977 to 1981. He was president of the Byrnes High School Booster Club from 1982 to 1984. He raised many tens of thousands of dollars for Byrnes Rebel Athletics and the football program especially. He also served as a member of the Motlow Holly Springs reading program working with children who were having trouble with reading. In his spare time, he delivered meals to poor and elderly people in his community with Mobile Meals. Fred was an avid traveler and vacationed in all fifty states and sixteen foreign countries. His favorite cities he visited were Dublin, Paris, London and Rome. His children and grandchildren accompanied him on many of these trips. He enjoyed dogs, blueberry pancakes, bagpipes, and reading non-fiction books. He was especially fond of works about Thomas Jefferson and Winston Churchill. In his later years, he continued to enjoy the Byrnes Rebels on Friday nights and became an avid gardener in his yard. His lilies, daisies and black eyed susans became the beneficiaries of his generosity and kindness and they thrived. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Cheryl Jackson Goode; two sons, Eric Christopher Goode and Kevin Jackson Goode and his wife, Lorie Edenfield Goode; four grandchildren, Austin Christopher Goode, Charley Jackson Goode, Hayden Parker Goode and Grant Jackson Goode; brother-in-law, John Larry Jackson and Sandra Howe Jackson of Columbia; two nephews, Alex Jackson of New Hampshire and Zachery Jackson of Columbia; and two nieces, Cassady Caldwell of St. Louis, Missouri and Toy Geneal Caldwell of Spartanburg. Mr. Goode was predeceased by a sister, Abbie Goode Caldwell of Greenville and brother-in-law, Toy Caldwell of Spartanburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 393 East Main Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29302. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to the service.
