Elsie Dobson Johnson

Elsie Dobson Johnson was born March 31, 1924 to the late Samuel Waverly and Minnie Blackwell Dobson. At the age of 96, Miss Elsie as she was affectionately known, left a well lived life here on Earth where her greatest passion was her love for her family. She shared 75 years of marriage to her beloved husband, Alfred O. (Red) Johnson who was predeceased by her. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Calvin and Hubert, and her sister Patsy Ann. Elsie is survived by her daughter Janice J. Bosman (Joe) of Pendleton, her son Carey Johnson (Judy) of Lyman; four grandchildren, Andy Bosman (Tracey), Eric Bosman (Carla), Brian Johnson, and Amber Johnson Byars (Jay); six great-grandchildren McKinsey, Drew, Meghan, Claire Bosman, Katie Jo and Georgia Byars. Also surviving is a dedicated sister Norma Jean Johnson (Mike) of Mt. Airy, NC and a wonderful sister-in-law Ann Dobson of Spartanburg. In addition her much loved niece and nephews Cindy J. Stiff (Eric), Tony Johnson (Connie) and Bruce Johnson (Marilyn). She was a graduate of WLT High School and Cecil’s Business College. After retiring from Duke Power Co., Elsie served for a number of years as a general secretary at Wellford Baptist Church. She loved serving her Lord and her church family at Wellford Baptist. Elsie was actively involved serving multiple generations of children, youth, young adults and senior adults. She was a past director of the Woman’s Missionary Union, faithful choir member, and the original cook for Wednesday night meals, a service that she carried on for many years. At church potlucks, everyone looked for Miss Elsie’s delicious yeast rolls hoping to get one before they were all gone. As a devoted member of the Wellford Garden Club, Elsie loved working in her flowers, keeping a beautiful yard. A master seamstress, Elsie made everything from wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses to church pageant costumes, and clothed many dolls sent to various foreign mission fields. An accomplished quilter, she made a cherished quilt for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Wood Memorial Park in Greer. Conducted by Rev. John Moore, Rev. Mike Stokes and Rev. Larry Armstrong. Visitations will follow at the gravesite. The family respectfully request that family and friends wear masks and keep social distance per the COVID-19 precautions. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wellford Baptist Church Building Fund, 235 Syphrit Road, Wellford, SC, 29685.
