Eloise Smith

Martha Eloise Henderson Smith, 94, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017 peacefully at home. Born February 5, 1923 in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Hammett Henderson and Marjorie Lavella Huff Henderson. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Lewis Keith Smith, her brother, William Lee Henderson, brother-in-law. Wilson Whitner Smith, sisters-in-law Katherine, Murice and Grace Smith and Doris Taylor Henderson, and her step-sisters, Aljean Henderson Bennett and Mary Frank Henderson Stansell as well as her step-mother, Corrie Reid Henderson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Jack Anderson of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, her son Wilson Keith Smith of Gaffney, SC , grandchildren Warren Smith, Tamara and husband, Rob Main, Dr. Kevin and wife, Dr. Megan Smith and Jonathan and wife, Amanda Anderson. Her great-grandchildren Keely and husband Michael English, Riley, Aubrey and Weston Smith, Marley and Jetter Smith and Parker and Makayla Anderson, survive her. Her sister-in-law Mary Ann Henderson also survives her. Eloise was a long-time member of Faith United Methodist Church and volunteered to supply flower arrangements for church services and also for members in the hospitals, nursing homes, or those who were homebound. She was Volunteer of the Year at Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Greer Garden Club and the Homemakers Club. She won various awards for her roses and rose arrangements. She was employed by Sherwin-Williams Paint Company as a bookkeeper and during WWII, worked at the Pentagon. She loved to sew and to garden and continued to garden past her 90s. She enjoyed donating antique family items to the Greer Heritage Museum. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Faith United Methodist Church, 1301 South Main Street (South Highway 14) in Greer, SC from 1:30-2:45PM, followed by funeral service at 3:00 PM at the church with the Rev. Robert Goulart and Rev. Philip Watry officiating. Private committal service and entombment will be held at a later time at Hillcrest Memory Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church. Family will be at the residence. The family wishes to express appreciation to Home Helpers, Inc. and Halcyon Hospice for the gentle care provided to Eloise.
