E. Cliatt Alewine, Sr.

E. Cliatt Alewine, Sr., passed away on February 4, 2025. Cliatt was born May 7, 1936, on Main Street, Taylors, South Carolina, to the late Martin Ansel and Mattie May Hallum Alewine. He spent all his early years in Taylors, attending Taylors Elementary and High Schools. After graduation, Cliatt attended Furman University where he met his wife of 65 plus years, Elizabeth “Liz” Maxwell Alewine. After graduating from Furman, he joined the U.S. Army, spending 3-4 years to attain the rank of E-6 active duty and then 6 years active Reserves with the rank of O-2. After leaving military active duty, Cliatt spent most of his career in the family business, Taylors Lumber Co., Inc. He was honored to serve as a Commissioner with the Boiling Springs Fire District (Greenville County) for 25 plus years. For a number of years, Cliatt was privileged to serve on the Christian Ministry Scholarship Fund Committee and as a member of Counsel of Advisors at North Greenville University. After returning to the Taylors area, Cliatt and his family joined Edwards Road Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Upon reflection, Cliatt acknowledged how God closed and opened doors to accomplish His purpose in his life. Cliatt accepted Christ at nine years of age and was baptized at Taylors First Baptist Church. Cliatt is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Alewine; daughters, Marianne E. Alewine and M. Katherine Pulliam (Lonnie); son, Edward “Eddie” Cliatt, Jr. (Mitzi); and grandsons, Cameron Pulliam, “Tripp” Alewine and Zachary Alewine. In addition to his parents, Cliatt was predeceased by his siblings, Martha “Betty” Smith (Buddy) and Martin A. Alewine, Jr. (Mary). Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Edwards Road Baptist Church. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held 10:00-11:15 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Edwards Road Baptist Church. Cliatt’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary escort will be the Boiling Springs Fire Department. The family will be at their respective homes.
