Dan Larry Brewton

Dan Larry Brewton, beloved husband of Elizabeth Fryer Brewton, died September 22, 2015 at the age of 83. Born May 23, 1932 in Greer, SC., he was the son of the late Clyde Earle and Geneva Edwards Brewton. He proudly served his country as an SFC in the US Army Southeastern Signal School at Ft. Gordon, GA during the Korean Conflict. He was an honors graduate of Clemson Agriculture College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Manufacturing. He was a member of the honors fraternity Phi Psi. He was employed with JP Stevens Manufacturing as a plant superintendent, Dan River Mills as a plant manager and Arkwright Mills as a plant manager. He retired from Spartan Mills in 1995, after served as corporate quality control engineer and plant manager of Startex Plant. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, having served in many offices. His fondest experience was a charter member of Advent United Methodist Church. He helped the church grow from 30 members to over 2000 members. He was a member of the International Association of Lions Club for over 20 years, in Pamplico and Greer, SC where he served in several offices. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Fryer Brewton of the home; four daughters, Diane Brewton and Jack Dverin of New Orleans, LA, Nancy Brewton Kanupp and husband Harold of Wahalla, SC, Teri Brewton Griffin and husband Bobby of Laurens and Sheryl Brewton Hubel and Daryl Goben of Taylors; four brothers, Oliver Adair Brewton, Sr. and wife Audrey of Greer, Maurice Lee Brewton and wife Norma of Greenville, Ray Nelson Brewton and wife Ann of Greer and Carol Wendell Brewton and wife Pat of LaGrange, GA; five grandchildren, Lauren Lee Webb and Ron Scott, Brittany Griffin and John Perkinson, Ansley Griffin Henery and husband Dylan, Corey Goben and Nicholas Goben; one great-granddaughter Aubrey Henery. His first wife and the mother of his children, Vivian Mullinax Brewton, preceded him in death in 1984. The family will receive friends at Wood Mortuary, 300 West Poinsett Street, Greer, SC on Sunday, September 27, from 2:00-4:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at Advent United Methodist Church, 2258 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, SC, on Monday, September 28, 2015 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Michael Turner, the Reverend Smoke Kanipe and the Reverend Laura-Allen Kerlin officiating.
