Carolyn White

Ollie “Carolyn” White, 83, of Woodbridge, VA, received her angel wings and went to be with Jesus on August 21, 2024. She was born on June 19, 1941, to Walter Curry Hammond & Nathlee Bridgeman Hammond in Greenville, South Carolina. Carolyn graduated from Winthrop Training High School, Rock Hill, South Carolina in 1959 and completed 2 years of business school after her high school graduation. She married the love of her life, Jerry J. White on July 6, 1963. With Jerry they had two children, a son Jerry Jr. and a daughter Jennifer Leigh. Her children were her most prized possessions which was obvious to anyone she encountered. Above all else, Carolyn loved Jesus. Her faith helped her to look for and find the good in everything. Carolyn loved all people, and they loved her back. She lit up every room she walked in. Her smile was contagious to all who encountered it. Any person she passed whether they knew her or not would notice her and smile. She loved to read. She would consume a novel in a day. Family cruises (she was blessed with many) gave her many fond memories. Carolyn was a sports junkie. She loved her Redskins football and Nationals baseball, and she cheered for them no matter what. Elvis Presley’s music was her favorite, but she loved country music as well. She attended many concerts with her friends, and she would always tell the stories of what fun she had or how she got to meet them. Her husband nicknamed her “Monty” because she could always find a bargain. She was extremely smart and studious. From the mid 1970’s through 2020 she worked for various companies owned by J.D. Long. She took great pride in her work and the love she had for her work family was demonstrated through her loyalty. Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Walter Curry Hammond, her mother, Nathlee Bridgeman Hammond, and her brother, William Robert Hammond. Carolyn is survived by her husband Jerry J. White of Woodbridge, Virginia; daughter, Jennifer Leigh White of Woodbridge, Virginia; son, Jerry White Jr. and wife Jami of Arlington, Texas; as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, Woodbridge, VA. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 26, 2024, 5:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, with Mick Martin officiating. Additionally, the family will receive visitors prior to the service at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Graveside interment will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, South Carolina, officiated by Mick Martin and arrangements handled by Wood Mortuary, Greer, South Carolina.
