Carl N. "Oochie" Gibson

Carl Nolan “Oochie” Gibson, 85, of Greer, South Carolina, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 1, 2024, at his home. He shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his lovely wife, Martha Brannon Gibson. He was born February 13, 1938, raised in Greer, South Carolina, son of the late Wilton Jason and Virginia Gilreath Gibson, a graduate of Greer High School, Presbyterian College in 1960 with a degree in Business Administration and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Mr. Gibson was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps in 1961, after completing ROTC at Presbyterian College. He was on active duty at Fort Gordon, Georgia, with the Army until 1963 when he left active service. He continued to serve in the Army Reserve until 1969 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He was owner of Lanford & Gibson Insurance Agency, was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greer, a master woodworker, avid reader, enjoyed playing golf, and loved his grandchildren. Surviving are three children, Todd Nolan Gibson (Mandy) of Taylors, Jason Alexander Gibson (Karen) of Travelers Rest, and Gwinn Gibson Harvey of Greer; six grandchildren, Alec Gibson (Ted), Devin Barnett (Peter), Daniel Harvey (Brittany), Madison Rerko (Michael), Nolan Gibson (Maddy), and Drayton Gibson; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Barnett, Izabella Barnett, and Cooper Harvey; and one brother, Gene Gibson (Pat) of Greer. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Mark Harvey; one brother and sister-in-law, Wilton Gibson (Maryhelen). The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to all our dear friends and family for their devoted support and prayers. The family would like to recognize his loving care givers, Debbie Rush, Martha Hawkins, and Althea Wells. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church of Greer, conducted by Rev. Will Shelburne and Rev. Ally Pexa. Visitation will be held Saturday in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service at the church.
