Brenda Howard Young

Brenda Howard Young, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior, December 2, 2023. A life-long resident of Greer, South Carolina, daughter of the late Alton W. and Dorothy Solesbee Howard, she was a 1960 graduate of Greer High School and enjoyed continued friendships for many years. Brenda advanced her career at Greenville Technical College and served as customer service representative and administrative assistant for General Battery/Exide Corporation in Greer, South Carolina for 30 years. She enjoyed traveling the 50 United States of America as well as many foreign countries. Mrs. Young was very active with Girl Scouts of America for approximately 10 years and received their highest award at the time, which was the Curved Bar Award. In her late forties and early fifties, Brenda held multiple American Track and Field records in the hammer throw and weight throw categories for her age divisions. She continued athletic competition into her early sixties, including competing in the World Track and Field games in the year 2000. Brenda was a dedicated charter member of Praise Cathedral Church of God and was very active and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Surviving are one daughter, Kimberly Foster Wilson (Addrian) of Iva, South Carolina; one sister, Theresa Howard Harvey of Greer, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Roman Wilson (Andrea), Matthew Wilson (Shawna), Zachary Wilson (Casey), and Hannah Wimpey (Aaron); and nine great-grandchildren, London Wilson, Arbor Wilson, Saylor Wilson, Paxton Wilson, Gavin Wilson, Olivia Wilson, Emersyn Wilson, Wilson Wimpey, and Dorotheia Wimpey. Mrs. Young was predeceased by her first husband, Randolph Bruce Foster; second husband, Richard Louis “Dick” Bloomfield; and third husband, Donnie Norman “Don” Young. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, at Praise Cathedral Church of God conducted by Rev. Dr. Tommy Harvey and Rev. Bobby Johnson. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be held 9:30-10:45 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, at Praise Cathedral Church of God. The family will be at their respective homes.
