Amos Ferdinand Horne

Amos Ferdinand Horne, 87, of Greenville, SC, passed away on August 16, 2023. He was a hardworking individual who loved his family dearly. Amos cherished spending time with his loved ones, especially in the mountains. He was a fan of country music and enjoyed traveling to new countries to visit his daughter and explore. Amos was dedicated to growing Covenant Church and found joy in serving his community and spending time with friends. Amos is survived by his spouse, Sandy Horne, his daughter, Melissa Campbell, and his granddaughter, Savannah Campbell. He is also survived by his son, Barry Long, his grandson, Tyler Long, and his daughter-in-law, Susan Long. Amos is preceded in death by his mother, Dallie Henson; his father, Little Berry Horne; his sisters, Agnes Barfield, Viney Starnes, and Ressie Gordon; his brothers, Bill Horne, Jack Horne, Forrest Horne, Hezakiah Horne, and Floyd Horne. Amos attended Whiteville High School and later received a degree from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida. He proudly served in the US Air Force for 8 years. Throughout his career, Amos worked for various gas companies including Collier Gas, Pyrofax Gas, Petrolane, and Heritage Propane. He was the owner of Greer Gas and had the privilege of being the propane supplier for Freedom Weekend Aloft for many years. Additionally, Amos served as the President of the Kiwanis Club of Greer and as the President of the Southeastern National Propane Gas Association for a couple of years. Amos was a long-time member of Covenant Church, where he worshipped, finding great joy in his Sunday School class. He found solace and strength in his faith. In his free time, Amos enjoyed participating in Kiwanis International, fishing, traveling, and reading. A memorial service to honor Amos's life will be held on August 26, 2023, at 11:00am at Covenant Church located at 1330 Old Spartanburg Road in Greer. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Covenant Men's Ministries at Covenant Church in Greer or to Lutheran Hospice of Greenville.
