Carl Eugene "Gene" Barnette

Carl Eugene “Gene” Barnette, 81, devoted husband of 59 years to Sandra Alexander Barnette, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 22, 2023, after several years of declining health. Gene’s memory will forever be cherished in the hearts and minds of his loving wife, family, and all who knew him. Born in Greenville, SC Gene graduated from Taylors High School in 1959 and pursued a career in accounting, which led to his retirement from Davis Electrical Constructors/IES after 38 years of service. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, boating, and Jeep adventures. His easy-going manner made him a friend to all. Gene was a handyman who could do anything from remodeling a home to changing oil in our cars. Gene was a man of integrity who loved the Lord above all and served in various ministries within the church. Through the years he served in various churches as a praise and worship leader, trumpet player, deacon, elder, finance committee, and a children’s outreach bus driver. Gene was currently a member of Praise Cathedral in Greer where he looked forward to Sunday services and weekly intercessory prayer group. Although he will be greatly missed on earth, we can be at peace knowing the moment he entered Heaven, he immediately fell at the feet of his Abba Father worshiping. Surviving are his wife, Sandra; daughter, Angela Hagan; son, Nathan Barnette (Jada); grandchildren, Krystal Barnette Lord (Jamie Patterson), Elora Hagan, Jacob Barnette, and Ava Barnette; great-grandchildren, Koen Lord and Berkley Patterson; sister, Margaret Rainey (Jim); brother-in-law, Aaron Alexander (Nancy); and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Barnette was predeceased by his parents, Carl Crawford Barnette and Lillie Mae Loftis Gambrell; in-laws, Romaine and Blanche Alexander; and granddaughter, Rebekah Hagan. Visitation will be held 12:30-1:45pm Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at The Wood Mortuary. Funeral service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel conducted by Pastor Jerry Madden and Pastor Bobby Lord.
