Ralph Henry Bridgeman, 86, of 306 West James Street, died January 23, 2010 at Richard Campbell VA Nursing Home.
A native of Greenville County, he was a son of the late Richard Henry and Ollie Pace Bridgeman. Shortly after graduating from Taylors High School he entered the Navy and served during WWII in the European Theatre with the Construction Battalion of the Navy (Seabees). He retired after 36 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was employed in sales for many years with G.R. Dawson and Son in Chester, SC, retiring in 1986 from Lowes. The love of his life was officiating football and refereeing for high school and college basketball for approximately 25 years. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Greer, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, and in any way that he could be of service to his church. Mr. Bridgeman was a Mason and a Shriner.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn McCauley Bridgeman of the home; a daughter, Katherine Elaine Bridgeman of the home; a son, Randolph (Randy) Ralph Bridgeman and his wife Irina of Novi, Michigan; three granddaughters and their husbands, Kimberly Wittman (Andrew), Amy Basso (Joey), and Laura Hammond (Benji); one grandson, Joshua Bridgeman and Joshua’s mother, Gloria Bridgeman; six great-grandchildren; a step-grandson in Swindon, England and a step-granddaughter and her husband and their two children in St. Petersburg, Russia, a brother, Walter Bridgeman (Aileen) of Taylors and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Dr. Rick Ezell and Rev. Dan Ray. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held 12:30-1:45 p.m. Tuesday at The Wood Mortuary.
The family is at the home.
