The Wood Mortuary, Inc. traces its origin back to 1902 when John D. Wood established a funeral and undertaking business. The business opened on the second floor of his Grocery-Hardware store located on Randall Street in downtown Greer, South Carolina.
After several years, John D. Wood built a chapel next door to the funeral business leading him to close the doors to the Grocery-Hardware store in 1922. He then placed his concentration on the growing Mortuary.
Richard H. Wood Jr., grandson of the founder now serves as President of the company.

The Wood Mortuary, Inc. has been a vital care giving member of Greer and vicinity for over a century. The mortuary was established in 1902 and was located downtown on Randall Street. For over 100 years and three generations of the Wood family, The Wood Mortuary, Inc. has been privileged to serve the families and the community as a whole with professional and personal service.
The Wood Mortuary, Inc. is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association, and the Better Buisness Bureau.

Graduating from Presbyterian College, Richard served 2 years of active duty in the U.S. Army. After marrying Sharone Bishop Wood, they became parents of two daughters and have one grandson. |

Greg Jones Manager Greg is a Licensed Funeral Director / Embalmer. Married to Stephanie Bull Jones, Greg and Stephanie have two sons and one grandson. Greg has been employed at The Wood Mortuary, Inc. since 1976. Graduating from Spartanburg Methodist College and Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1982, Greg also served on the South Carolina State Board of Funeral Service from 2002 to 2005. |

Clyde T. "Tom" Rampey, Jr., CFSP Assistant Manager Tom has been employed with The Wood Mortuary, Inc since 1977, and is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. Tom attended University of South Carolina, graduate of Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. As well as being Past president of South Carolina Funeral Directors Association, Tom is a former member of NFDA Policy Board and Member of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. |
